Vendor Spotlight: Menina Art and Decor

Navigating the world of wedding vendors can be tough so we’re here to help!  On the blog, we will occasionally feature locally-owned event businesses that we feel would be a great addition to your vendor team.  Today, we are excited to introduce Dani, the artist and owner of Menina Art and Decor!

VL: Tell us about your business!  What are the services you offer?

D: Menina Art and Decor is an event decoration business that specializes in custom chalkboard art, paintings and illustrations, and is located in Pensacola, Florida. Menina offers a range of artistic services that are unique to each customer and event, from calligraphy to fine art.

My main clients are brides looking for original and custom-made chalkboards and signs for their weddings, but I’ve also done chalkboards for restaurants and private homes. A few times I’ve had the opportunity to create watercolor paintings and illustrations for wedding invitations.

VL: How did you get started and how long have you been in business?

D: I started my business in January 2016, so it will be two years soon! I was involved in the wedding business for a few months and noticed how popular chalkboard art had become in the wedding setting, so I decided to start a business of my own. I love event planning and all things art, so a chalkboard and decoration business seemed like the right thing to do.

VL: Walk us through the process from when a customer contacts you until they receive the completed product.  How long does production normally take?

D: I usually ask customers to contact me one to two months before their event – this is especially important for brides, as we all know how crazy wedding planning can get the last few weeks. We exchange information and ideas about the chalkboards or artwork. I then create a few rough drafts for my clients to approve. I always try to set up an in-person meeting; I love to meet my customers, and the ideas usually flow more easily in person than through e-mail (it’s also an excuse to get a good cup of coffee around Downtown!). We go over the rough drafts and tweak them. My clients can drop off their chalkboards with me or I rent out my own chalkboards and easels. The next time I see my customers is when I deliver the completed product. I try to make it easier on my brides, so if they are having a local wedding I deliver the chalkboards to the venue free of charge.

VL: Do you help your customers create their vision or do they need to have a specific idea in mind when they contact you?

D: I work with both type of customers. Some bring pictures that inspire them and already know what they want their artwork to look like. Others are open to ideas. It’s fun to work with both! All of my customers have a style and feeling they are going for, even if they don’t exactly know how to bring it to life. I love to go over different color palettes, fonts and designs with them to create the artwork they are looking for.

VL: Do you have any exciting plans or projects you would like to tell us about?

D: Well, it’s not really a project, but I recently submitted a painting for the 2017 Great Gulfcoast Art Festival poster contest and won! I’m super excited and grateful. I love the festival and enjoy it so much every year. I do have other art projects in mind for the future, and I of course plan to continue running Menina Art and Decor.

VL: What is your favorite thing about what you do?

D: I enjoy every part of my business. I’ve been an artist for many years, so the actual production of the chalkboard, painting or drawing is lots of fun to me. I’m also a people person, so I like how Menina Art and Decor is entirely customer-based. Meeting my clients is always a joy, but my favorite part is probably delivering the completed product. I love to see their excitement about how the final piece turned out!

VL: Anything else you would like to share?

D: You can see my work on my business’s facebook page,, or my instagram @artmenina. You can also reach me through both!

Brittany here: I worked with Dani when planning my wedding and, not only was she easy and fun to work with, but the finished products were beautiful!  Her services are reasonably priced and she ensures the smallest details are perfect.  I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to add an artistic touch to any event.
